Self-employed PA wanted for ad hoc support and emergency cover, 78-year-old gentleman, Isle of Wight

Please read first: this is an ad hoc role, not a regular routine. Some weeks we may need a few hours, other weeks a few days, and then nothing for a week or two. We also need someone who can sometimes provide emergency cover. This role is for self-employed PAs, who pay their own tax and National Insurance.

About Gentleman
J is a 78-year-old gentleman living on the Isle of Wight. He lives with his nephew, who does a lot of his caring, so this support is partly a backup for his nephew as well as help for him. J is autistic and very hard of hearing. He has had a stroke, which affects his speech. He can communicate reasonably well, but he needs some patience when talking. He isn't a very social person, so a calm, quiet, respectful approach is important.

What help is needed
- Prompting him to take his medication: getting his pill box out and giving him his pills. He can take them himself but needs prompting.
- Foot care: sometimes washing his feet and applying cream for his eczema
- Cutting his nails
- Doing his laundry
- Changing his bed
- Cleaning the bathroom
- Preparing meals occasionally
- Taking him to hospital appointments
- Taking him to GP appointments
- Sometimes taking him out on visits, such as to the duck pond or the shops

Personal care is limited to his feet and nails. J does not need help with washing, showering or intimate care.

Who we're looking for
A self-employed PA who is patient, reliable and flexible, can communicate clearly with someone who is hard of hearing and has speech difficulties, and respects his need for his own space.
