Personal Assistant (PA) Support – 5 hours per week Location: Newport, Isle of Wight (SM 85958)

A 66 year old gentleman living independently in Newport is seeking a reliable and empathetic Personal Assistant to provide support for 5 hours per week.

This gentleman has lived alone locally for over 30 years. He has arthritis, asthma and COPD, which affect his mobility and cause breathlessness. He uses a walking stick (although may forget to use it at times) and has experienced falls in the past, particularly on stairs, leading to anxiety about going out.
He manages personal care independently, including bed transfers, but moves slowly.
He is socially isolated following the loss of his best friend and experiences ongoing depression, for which he takes medication. Although he currently spends most of his time watching TV, he has previously enjoyed attending local groups and is open to re engaging with community activities with the right support. His brother visits regularly, but wider support is limited.
He is a smoker and has a cat.

Support Required
The role will involve a flexible mix of practical and social support, including:

Cleaning and decluttering the home
Support to access the community and rebuild confidence going out
Encouragement to attend local groups and activities
Occasional support with shopping or attending medical appointments
Some assistance with managing paperwork and finances (if needed)
General companionship and emotional support

Essential Requirements

Car owner with a full driving licence (required for appointments and shopping)
Patient, understanding, and supportive approach
Comfortable working in a home with a cat and around smoking
Experience or confidence supporting someone with mobility limitations and low mood is desirable

5 hours per week
Days and times to be agreed flexibly
